Windows - run programs with hotkeys15 Jan 2007, 108 read(s) Tags:
Each one of us knows what hotkeys are. Some people are massively using them, while others are not. Using hotkeys has its advantages and disadvantages. In this article I'm going to show you how to run programs in Windows by using hotkeys and without installing any external software.
There are a lot of programs out there in the Internet which will allow you to work on the computer a lot easier by using hotkeys to perform different actions. Windows allows you to define own hotkeys to run programs. It doesn't have the power of specialized hotkey software, but with simple hacks you can make it perform even complicated tasks. However, the purpose of this article is to simply show how to run programs by using hotkeys in Windows and without installing any additional software.
This is actually very simple. What you need is just a shortcut of the program you want to run with a hotkey. I don't know why hotkeys in windows apply to shortcuts only, but I think it was easier for Microsoft to code it.
So create a shortcut and right-click it, and then select Properties. Then click the Shortcut tab. Click in the Shortcut key field. Now press a key from the keyboard. Here is the moment to tell you that Windows limits you to setting only hotkeys that start with Ctrl + Alt and a key after them. So pressing the key Q, for example, will make the hotkey Ctrl + Alt + Q to run the program. After setting your hotkey don't forget to press OK in the Properties window in order to save the hotkey.
